Patricia Urquiola designed the Chasen hanging lamp for the Italian company Flos in 2007. Immediately acclaimed by the public for its essential and aesthetically enviable design. Chasen, as its name suggests, is inspired by the bamboo whip used during the Japanese tea ceremony. Bamboo, due to its natural characteristics, helps to gently stir the tea powder without altering the taste.
The Chasen pendant lamp features a die-cast aluminium base that supports the famous steel filament body, which in turn conceals a borosilicate glass diffuser. The entire lamp is available in black or white. The final effect is very striking thanks to the numerous filaments playing with the luminous background.
The Chasen lamp, with its purely oriental inspiration, may resemble the floating light of a lantern and, for the more experienced, the typical whisk used during the tea ceremony: its direct inspiration.
