Virgil Abloh and Cassina have collaborated on a project that explores the potential of modularity in contemporary interior design. The result is Modular Imagination Cassina: a pouf/coffee table available in two sizes, designed to be used individually or combined, transforming into a versatile piece of furniture — from a seat to a surface.
The project is based on a geometric and absolute module, designed to give shape to ever-changing scenarios, suitable for both private and public spaces. The rigorous aesthetics, in matt black, conceal a surprising softness that amplifies its functionality. Thanks to a connecting element, two units can be stacked, fitting the orange feet into the top of the lower module to create benches, tables or other compositional solutions.
The Cassina Modular Imagination cube consists of an internal structure in recycled wood and polyurethane padding containing bio-based polyols, covered with painted elastomer. The materials are designed to be separated and facilitate recycling at the end of the product's life cycle.
Modular Imagination represents a distinctive contribution to the world of design by Virgil Abloh. The designer's mark is recognisable in the shape and in the round 'Cassina-Abloh' logo, engraved in bas-relief on each surface.
