The Cassina Tramonto a New York sofa is an icon of 20th-century design, symbolising the vitality, innovation and creativity of Italian design. Created by master designer Gaetano Pesce as a tribute to his adopted city, this extraordinary piece has been reissued in a limited series, preserving all the expressive power and surprising relevance of the original design.
The seat is created by alternating low and high elements which, in the design, recall upholstered skyscrapers, individually crafted and covered in an exclusive fabric with a rectangular relief pattern, alternating light and dark to evoke the light reflected on the windows. In contrast, the sun — wrapped in vibrant red satin — dissolves in the centre of the backrest, between the buildings.
The volumes are constructed with a plywood frame, elastic straps and a structure in variable density Ecolinfa rubber, covered in recycled PET polyester wadding and finished in fabric. The new edition, resized to a larger version than the archive model, is available in a single three-seater size. Each model comes with a satin-finish steel plaque certifying its authenticity.
The Cassina Tramonto a New York sofa is designed for modern homes, where it becomes an expression of an eccentric personality and a love of design. In contract spaces, it surprises with its original composition, transforming itself into a central, sculptural element capable of redefining the environment.
