The Clessidra wall lamp by the Italian company Flos is made of aluminum and features, as the name suggests, the typical shape of an hourglass ("clessidra" being the Italian for "hourglass"). At the two ends are positioned two sophisticated lenses that filter the light by expanding or decreasing its radius. The 20°+20° Clessidra lamp generates a narrower beam while the 40°+40° Clessidra lamp generates a wider one. This particular feature is very useful in the study of a lighting design where the narrow beam lamp will be preferred to illuminate architectural elements such as columns and recesses and the wide beam version will be preferred to illuminate larger spaces such as walls.
