Taking its name from the epic poems of antiquity, Gubi’s Epic coffee table, designed by GamFratesi, is a piece of furniture with a strong sculptural presence, inspired by Greek columns and Roman architecture. Originally created in Italy from travertine, it has now evolved into a new version, the first of its kind by the duo, crafted from steel sheets: galvanised, lacquered and subjected to a series of manual processes that make each surface unique and one-of-a-kind.
The structure consists of a round top supported by a central hexagonal base, a geometry that enhances both the monumentality of the marble and the industrial aesthetic of the metal. The finishes range from white travertine to burnt red, where the natural veining takes centre stage, to three metallic variants, each characterised by textures and shades created by the artisanal finishing processes.
The Gubi Epic coffee table collection adds personality to private spaces and a tactile quality to public and hospitality areas, where the hard-wearing surfaces ensure exceptional durability. The different heights and diameters allow a single monochromatic coffee table to be used as a standalone sculptural piece, or to create dynamic compositions that play with materials, colours and proportions, giving rise to ever-changing contemporary settings.
