Designed in 1952 by Greta M. Grossman and named Desk 62 because it was considered a decade ahead of its time, Gubi’s 62 Desk perfectly embodies the designer’s visual lightness and unconventional approach. Its refined and striking silhouette seems to defy gravity, transforming a functional piece into an architectural statement with a bold character.
The structure is characterised by slender metal legs resting on small wooden feet, a distinctive feature of Grossman’s design language. On the right-hand side, the metal leg intertwines with a diagonal wooden leg, creating a sinuous and dynamic movement; on the other side, two slender supports lift the side unit with two low drawers and one tall drawer, giving the composition an asymmetrical yet surprisingly harmonious balance.
The elegance of the 62 Desk is further enhanced by the combination of materials: the American walnut frame complements the deep glossy black finish of the top and door, creating a sophisticated contrast that highlights the craftsmanship and modernity of the design. Every detail contributes to defining a sculptural presence, capable of capturing the eye without ever being overbearing.
Perfect in a private study or living room, the Gubi 62 Desk also finds its place in high-profile contract settings, where it becomes a statement piece with timeless appeal. Paired with a Gubi Meeting Chair, its character is fully realised, transforming any space into an elegant, functional workspace or reception area, rich in character.
