Designed in 1955 by Mathieu Matégot, Gubi’s Copacabana armchair retains the visionary power of its creator. Its continuous line, which appears to have been drawn in a single stroke of the pencil, lends it a spontaneous, graphic elegance: a fluid line that becomes structure, style and character, transforming any space into a small stage for design.
The armchair is built on a curved tubular base that envelops the round seat and backrest in Rigitulle, the perforated metal sheet that Matégot made iconic in his works. The slender, continuous rear legs echo the shape of the backrest in a play of symmetries reminiscent of an open pair of pliers, at the centre of which the seat appears suspended. A lightweight yet sturdy structure, available in black and orange finishes, which conveys both solidity and visual lightness.
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use — depending on the upholstery chosen for the cushion — the Gubi Copacabana armchair fits naturally into the living room’s relaxation areas, as well as outdoor spaces. Placed alongside sofas and other seating, it expands the area dedicated to socialising and relaxation, bringing with it a decorative elegance that does not go unnoticed.
