Beautifully honest and surprisingly light, both in weight and in appearance, the MR01 Initial armchair by Gubi marks the debut of the young Danish talent Mathias Steen Rasmussen and immediately reveals his design philosophy: a pure dialogue between craftsmanship, comfort and sustainability. The armchair translates its airy design into a welcoming and timeless aesthetic, becoming the natural centrepiece of moments of tranquillity, both outdoors and indoors. The low wooden silhouette and the rope weave, reminiscent of the nautical world, place it effortlessly in enclosed verandas or even in living spaces of great charm.
Crafted in walnut or oak, the frame retains its sculptural presence and the purity of its lines. Rasmussen remains true to his design philosophy: the armchair is constructed without the use of screws, a detail that highlights the continuity of the wood and the precision of the craftsmanship.
To ensure durability, the Gubi MR01 Initial armchair is hand-woven with 90 metres of natural linen rope, which forms the seat and backrest and lends the design a visual and structural lightness. Originally conceived as a meditation chair, the combination of wood and rope creates a simple, flexible and deeply sensory object, capable of conveying a sense of lightness and connection to the ground.
