The Stemlite table lamp by Gubi stems from the revolutionary vision of American designer Bill Curry, who, in the 1960s, introduced the first ‘total look’ lamp: a single, self-contained unit in which the base and shade merge into a fluid, modular and surprisingly contemporary form. Presented as his debut project, the Stemlite immediately became an icon: named “most influential lamp of the year” by Industrial Design in 1965, chosen as a prop in the original Star Trek series, it remained in production until 1977, marking an era.
Today, almost half a century later, Gubi reinterprets its legacy with a complete collection comprising two table lamps, two floor lamps and a pendant — a refined inversion of the original design — offered in a palette of contemporary colours that remain faithful to Curry’s authentic spirit.
