The Viscontea hanging lamp was created in 1960 by the Castiglioni brothers for the Italian company Flos. Viscontea was one of the first realisations of the Cocoon lamp collection.
Viscontea suspension lamp is an extremely unique lamp that is made by spraying a special resin called Cocoon onto a white painted metal frame. Cocoon resin was used during World War II by the US Army as a protective packing material for their various crews. During the 1950s, those who later became the cornerstones of the Italian company Flos, were looking for new materials and new inspiration so, during the Milan fair, they came across Cocoon resin and Viscontea was born and one of the first collections by Flos made entirely of metal structures and Cocoon resin.
The Viscontea suspension lamp has retained its beauty since the 1960s and bears the name of the Castiglioni masters as well as that of the Flos company. The famous lighting point is suitable for any type of environment, which will enjoy a soft, diffuse, natural light. Choose the Viscontea hanging lamp and you will possess the beauty and value of a handcrafted object, the importance of an indelible signature and the certainty of admiring a piece of design history every day.
