The FF. Spine bookcase by Cassina is the first piece of furniture designed by the Formafantasma duo for the company, originally conceived for the "1858" collection of the Giustini / Stagetti Gallery. This designer bookcase stems from a deep respect for the material: the wood used comes from trees uprooted by Storm Vaia, which hit the forests of Val di Fiemme hard in October 2018. A concrete gesture of recovery and remembrance, transforming environmental damage into tangible beauty.
The project pays homage to wood in its most authentic form—concrete, imperfect, alive—and elevates it thanks to the savoir-faire of Cassina's carpentry. The modular, essential and linear structure blends with refined geometric virtuosity, giving life to a bookcase composed of solid wood blocks with ever-changing grains and cuts. The result is a balance between the minimalist aesthetics of 20th-century masters and the formal lightness of contemporary design.
Designed to offer maximum flexibility of use, the Cassina FF. Spine bookcase is available in three configurations: suspended with wall mounting, floor-standing with wall mounting, and double-sided freestanding. Each model consists of vertical slats and interlocking horizontal shelves, with a variety of finishes that enhance the structure and highlight the intrinsic beauty of the wood.
