Free, innovative and revolutionary: this is the spirit of the Soriana project, reissued by Cassina in 2021. Fifty years after its creation by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Soriana armchair continues to amaze with a new limited edition that celebrates its unconventional nature through the use of denim—the universal and informal fabric par excellence—reinterpreted with boldness and refinement.
To enhance its iconic curves, a fine Japanese denim, renowned for its superior quality and craftsmanship, has been chosen. Woven on antique looms, the denim is self-edged, which refers to a narrow, natural edge that is deliberately left visible. The sturdy and durable structure is embellished with a dense red finish, visible along the outer seams and side profiles. After assembly, the lining undergoes a scratching and sandblasting process with materials derived from natural waste, followed by a wash that restores the faded effect typical of worn jeans.
The Cassina Soriana Denim armchair is available in three colours: indigo blue, ecru and black. The upholstery is secured by a large metal clamp available in blue, white or black to match the colour of the denim, or in a contrasting red version. On the back, a silk label bears the Cassina logo, the words 'ci-mò-sa', the year of production and a description of the unique features of this edition.
True to its conscious approach, the Cassina Soriana Denim armchair is made from circular materials: the padding is composed of BioFoam® microspheres, a plant-based bioplastic, and 100% recycled PET blown fibre from Plastic Bank®.
