The Woodline armchair by Cassina stands out for its bold, rigorous design, the result of Marco Zanuso's research into the possibility of anchoring a seating element to a self-supporting wooden structure. The project was conceived in 1949 for the international design competition promoted by MoMA in New York, and was then revived in 1964 thanks to the innovative technology developed by Arflex.
The wooden supporting structure is modelled on a geometric circle-based matrix, giving the seat a formal and timeless elegance. Made of curved beech plywood, veneered in ash or walnut, the structure features two curved elements that transform into legs and armrests. The latter extend in a harmonious curve to support the backrest, completing the silhouette with balance and refinement.
The lightly padded seat is upholstered in leather or removable fabric, secured with discreet press studs. Lightweight yet majestic, the Cassina Woodline armchair fits naturally into living spaces, alongside sofas and coffee tables, creating a cosy and sophisticated corner.
