The latest creation from the Archizoom group, the Cassina AEO armchair was designed in 1973 by Paolo Deganello as a provocative reinterpretation of the modern chair. Designed to break the mould, it was initially offered in a disassembled version, inviting the customer to actively participate in the assembly process — a gesture that reflected the experimental spirit of the project.Â
AEO embodies the versatility and practicality typical of Cassina design: removable, washable, lightweight and surprisingly comfortable, it adapts naturally to any environment and style. Its distinctive design features a painted tubular steel frame, deliberately left exposed and supported by a shaped pedestal. The generous and welcoming seat cushion is padded with polyurethane foam and polyester wadding, creating a harmonious contrast with the slender structure.
An iconic feature is the backrest, upholstered in leather or fabric, which drapes over the structure like a curtain, giving the armchair a soft and playful look. This stylistic choice, as original as it is evocative, emphasises the free and unconventional character of the object.
In the domestic context, the Cassina AEO armchair is not just a seat: it is a piece of furniture-sculpture, a work of art capable of enriching the space and reflecting the personality of those who live there.
