Designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1974, the Cassina Sarpi table follows in the footsteps of the famous Doge, with which it shares its inclusion in the Ultrarazionale collection. While recalling the same material qualities as its predecessor, Sarpi introduces a formal innovation: an inverted base of modest dimensions, designed to adapt to even the smallest spaces.
The structure, in satin-finish drawn metal with visible burnished screws, stands out for its conceptual reversal: the slender frame, usually used to support the top, rests directly on the ground, while the small T-shaped feet support the glass top, creating a visual effect of lightness and suspension. The top, in float glass with polished bevelled edges and rounded corners, contrasts elegantly with the metal base, revealing its structural beauty from every angle.
In 2009, Tobia Scarpa expanded the range of original shapes—octagonal, rectangular, square and round—by introducing Elistella, a tabletop with a rounded silhouette inspired by Bernoulli's spiral, a perfect synthesis of mathematics and design poetry.
The Cassina Sarpi table fits naturally and elegantly into any setting, from modern to classic dining rooms, bringing with it Scarpa's visionary ingenuity and refined comfort that invites conviviality.
