First produced around 1950, Gubi’s 9205 table lamp embodies a classic, almost archetypal aesthetic that carries with it Paavo Tynell’s unmistakable approach to lighting. Elegant and slender, its seemingly simple form conceals extraordinary craftsmanship, the result of meticulous, entirely manual work.
The fabric shade is created by securing the fabric to an inner lining, which is then mounted by hand onto a metal frame. In the bamboo version, a series of thin, hand-sewn strips creates a sort of pleated mat, which is subsequently attached to the lining and the frame: a refined contemporary reinterpretation of the bamboo used in the original model produced by Taito. The stem, finely milled with a pattern reminiscent of rattan, is crafted by a goldsmith with almost sculptural precision, reproducing the effect of thin overlapping strips. A brass plate, screwed to the stem, supports the shade with discretion and solidity.
The Gubi 9205 table lamp brings a refined yet distinctive presence to any space, blending naturally into both classic interiors and contemporary settings. Its soft light and balanced proportions create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal companion for the living room, reading area or spaces dedicated to relaxation.
