The Coppia table lamp, designed for Gubi by Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt, introduces a new sculptural and luminous presence to the collection. With its dual light source and colourful silhouette, it becomes a unique decorative piece, perfect for placing in the living room on a coffee table, a shelf or even on the floor, like a small eye-catching work of art.
The design is characterised by two plexiglass discs – a material iconic to Fonnesberg Schmidt’s work – encased in a curved metal body. This combination marks both the introduction of a new material and a new designer to the world of Gubi. The fluid yet strictly geometric form is robust enough to allow the lamp to move naturally between functions and spaces: from the desk to the bedside table, from the windowsill to the bookshelf, adapting to everyday needs.
Crafted from brushed tempered stainless steel, the metal frame has a warm, almost bronze-like sheen that complements three nature-inspired colour combinations of the plexiglass: Ivory/Powder Pink, Ivory/Olive and Ivory/Clover.
Named as such in Italian, the Gubi Coppia table lamp straddles the boundary between design and sculpture, a quality that runs through much of Fonnesberg Schmidt’s work as a lighting designer. It is an object that exists at the intersection of art, design and craftsmanship, finding its beauty in the interplay of geometries and in its ability to transform light into presence.
