The Stemlite floor lamp by Gubi stems from the revolutionary vision of American designer Bill Curry, who, in the 1960s, introduced the first ‘total look’ lamp: a single, self-contained unit in which the base and shade merge into a fluid, modular and surprisingly contemporary form. Presented as his debut project, the Stemlite immediately became an icon: named “most influential lamp of the year” by Industrial Design in 1965, chosen as a prop in the original Star Trek series, it remained in production until 1977, marking an era.
Today, almost half a century later, Gubi reinterprets its legacy with a complete collection comprising two table lamps, two floor lamps and a pendant — a refined inversion of the original design — offered in a palette of contemporary colours that remain faithful to Curry’s authentic spirit.
The Stemlite floor lamp is available in two heights and three finishes, characterised by an ultra-slim stem that culminates in a round base perfectly harmonised with the opal glass shade, which is as soft and smooth as a pebble shaped by water. A counterweight concealed within the base’s geometry ensures stability and safety, without compromising the purity of the silhouette.
Timeless and minimalist, the Gubi Stemlite floor lamp brings a discreet and luminous elegance to interiors. Perfect next to sofas and armchairs, it creates a cosy and sophisticated atmosphere, adapting naturally to classic, modern and contemporary styles thanks to its visual lightness and timeless presence.
