The Stemlite suspension lamp by Gubi stems from the revolutionary vision of Bill Curry, the American designer who, in the 1960s, introduced the first ‘total look’ lamp: a single, fluid unit in which the base and shade merge into a self-contained, modular and surprisingly contemporary form. Presented as his debut project, the Stemlite immediately became an icon: in 1965 it was named “most influential lamp of the year” by Industrial Design and appeared as a prop in the original Star Trek series. It remained in production until 1977, marking an entire era of American design.
Today, almost half a century later, Gubi reinterprets its legacy with a complete collection comprising two table lamps, two floor lamps and a pendant — a refined inversion of the original design — offered in a palette of contemporary colours yet faithful to Curry’s authentic spirit.
The suspension version features a satin-finished glass shade, soft and smooth like a pebble shaped by water, supported by a slender metal stem that conceals the cable and is available in three different finishes. The result is a minimalist, balanced and naturally elegant light fixture.
Timeless and understated, the Gubi Stemlite suspension lamp brings a soft, refined light to interiors. Perfect above a dining table or in a cosy corner, it creates an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere, blending naturally into classic, modern or contemporary interiors thanks to its visual lightness and timeless presence.
