Mite is the name given by Foscarini to a collection of floor, suspension and wall lamps that won the Compasso d'Oro award in 2001 for innovation in lighting.
Foscarini holds a special patent on this project: a mix of fibreglass and carbon thread (for the black version) or Kevlar (for the yellow version), which acts both as decoration and support structure for this lamp. This material, already used in the production of fishing rods, oars and golf clubs, characterised by extreme flexibility and lightness, and resistant over time, was first used by FOSCARINI in 2001 to create this unique and fabulous collection of lamps. Its success has made Mite a real legend among floor lamps and floor lamps. The light source of Mite by Foscarini, halogen or LED, is adjustable and is placed at the top, inside a structure that, starting from a small circumference, widens in a fluid way towards the top, vaguely taking the shape of a very long and narrow funnel. The lighting effect of Mite is twofold: a main one upwards, on the ceiling, consisting of an intense and warm light beam, obtained thanks to an internal parabolic play; and a secondary one, which is achieved thanks to the effect that the internal lighting produces on the decoration of the lamp and enhances its slender shape.
Foscarini's Mite floor lamp has an eye always on the study of optical phenomena, such as the refraction and reflection of light and, while being very elegant, is capable of furnishing any type of environment.
