More than 70 years after the original design, the Molteni D.847.1 desk has been reborn thanks to Molteni's Heritage Collection re-edition project, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives. The careful study of drawings, photos and period materials has made it possible to faithfully reproduce the desk, bringing to light the high craftsmanship of the solid wood workmanship.
The desk has tapered legs with satin-finished brass ferrules that embellish it, supporting a particular top with curved finials reminiscent of an aeroplane wing. Made of honey-stained solid ash wood, the desk expresses the craftsmanship of combining classic, yet innovative proportions in the play of curves. Completing the functionality and elegance of the desk is a small drawer under the top with a rounded front, an element that was to become a hallmark of Ponti production in the following years.
