Cassina presents Utrecht XL, a new interpretation of the iconic armchair designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1935, conceived to respond anthropometrically to the physical evolution of contemporary generations. Although larger in size, Utrecht XL retains the essence of the original design: a composition of clean, distinct volumes that embodies Rietveld's experimental vision and the principles of Neoplasticism.
The backrest, slightly inclined to offer ergonomic support, rests directly on the floor along with the deep, generously padded seat. The armrests, shaped like inverted 'L's, accentuate the rigorous, minimalist geometries that define the armchair's identity.
The supporting structure is made of poplar plywood and solid fir wood, while the polyurethane foam and polyester wadding padding ensures enveloping comfort. The non-removable cover fits perfectly to the lines of the armchair and is embellished with decorative horse-shoe or zig-zag stitching, an expression of refined craftsmanship.
The Cassina Utrecht XL armchair is a timeless masterpiece, capable of enriching both residential and contract spaces with its sculptural presence and timeless charm.
