The 1972 suspension lamp by Gubi emerged as a natural evolution of the design language that Paavo Tynell had established with the 1967, reinterpreting his lighting aesthetic through a conical bamboo shade crafted by master artisans. Handcrafted in its construction yet rich in functional and refined details, the 1972 naturally illuminates a variety of spaces — from the living room to the dining area — complementing classic, modern or contemporary interiors.
The shade is composed of hand-sewn bamboo slats, woven into a pleated mat and carefully secured to the wire frame, with a linen lining that softens the light. The light is directed downwards, creating a warm, intimate cone, but it also filters through the slats, generating a diffused glow upwards that envelops the space. The brass finishes, Tynell’s unmistakable signature, add a touch of timelessness and harmonise with the natural tones of the wood and light. Beneath the bulb, a fabric diffuser modulates the brightness, whilst a decorative brass element introduces a precious accent that subtly influences the play of light.
Available in two sizes and also in a height-adjustable version, the Gubi 1972 suspension lamp creates an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere above the dining table or in a cosy corner of the living room. Its soft, enveloping light makes it ideal for both domestic use and hospitality settings, where it becomes a true luminous gem, capable of enhancing the space with an elegant and timeless presence.
