The Bistra armchair by Gubi, designed by AMDL Circle under the direction of Michele De Lucchi, is conceived as a small sculptural piece of furniture that distils the classic bistro chair down to its purest essence, transforming it into a contemporary object that combines elegance, lightness and a sense of timelessness.
Its roots lie in the material that defines it: steam-bent rattan, crafted with a mastery that draws on the traditions of cabinetmaking and reinterprets them in a modern key. The visual language of the Bistra is inspired by organic growth: the legs, armrests and backrest seem to develop like branches, following soft, natural lines. The structure opens up, breaks apart and then reassembles itself into a sinuous and inviting weave, which rises from the legs to outline the armrests and the rounded backrest, finished with tone-on-tone rattan cord details that enhance the continuity of the material.
The upholstered seat offers instant comfort and can be customised with a range of coverings, transforming each piece into a unique statement of style. Available in three colour options for the frame, the Gubi Bistra armchair is versatile, blending tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and formal design.
Perfect for completing the living area, it also finds its natural place as a standalone piece in an intimate and cosy reading nook, where it becomes a distinctive feature: a small domestic totem that combines warmth, personality and a discreet yet unmistakable sculptural presence.
