The limited edition of Gubi’s Pacha armchair, designed by Pierre Paulin, was created as a tangible gesture of support for children’s health and education worldwide. The Young Hopes campaign presents an exclusive UNICEF version of the famous Pacha Lounge, upholstered with high-quality fabrics sourced from surplus stock and produced in a limited run of just 100 pieces. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to children living in often-forgotten crisis areas, such as Burkina Faso, Myanmar and Sudan, transforming a design icon into a symbol of solidarity.
Soft, enveloping and generously padded, the Pacha stands out for its rounded, sculptural forms, which lend it a spontaneous elegance and immediate comfort. The seat and backrest, both wide and rounded, interact with the slender metal base that lifts the armchair lightly off the ground, creating a visual balance between volume and suspension. With creations such as this, Paulin has defined the concept of ‘low-level living’, a new way of living that brings the body closer to the ground and frees seating from traditional legs, favouring organic forms and a more intimate relationship with space.
Thanks to its harmonious proportions, slightly raised base and inward-sloping stitching that shapes the upholstery like a bespoke suit, the Pacha x UNICEF becomes an icon of contemporary comfort. Its sinuous, organic lines naturally cradle the body, offering a soft, enveloping and deeply relaxing seating experience. An armchair that not only furnishes a space but also embodies a commitment, a gesture of care that unites design, ethics and beauty.
