Designed in the 1950s by Greta M. Grossman, Gubi’s G-10 suspension lamp is one of her lesser-known yet most captivating designs. Whilst exuding an industrial character — with its textured shade and clean lines — the lamp retains a soft, feminine and elegant silhouette, which many associate with the ladies’ hats that graced the streets of the era.
The G-10 was Grossman’s tenth project for the Swedish company Bergboms, from which it takes its name. Available in a single size but in various colours, it features a funnel-shaped shade with a matt finish, designed to cast a warm and refined light. It is an object that combines formal precision with visual lightness, revealing the designer’s ability to transform a simple gesture into an icon.
With her characteristic touch of humour, Grossman also envisioned the Gubi G-10 suspension lamp in playful installations: in pairs, in groups, in experimental arrangements. At the same time, the lamp works beautifully on its own, suspended above a dining table or as a focal point in a living room. Like many of the designer’s works, the G-10 was produced in both the United States and Sweden; the Gubi version draws inspiration from the Swedish edition, capturing its authentic essence.
