Cassina's Nuage à Plots bookcase, designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1940, was born from a poetic intuition: the observation of shelves arranged in the shape of a cloud on the walls of the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. From this vision, the French designer developed the concept of free modularity, based on functionality, aesthetics and usability.
Designed as a double-sided or wall-mounted bookcase, Nuage à Plots is a freestanding composition that can be suspended or placed in the centre of the room, transforming itself into a sculptural element capable of defining the space. Its rhythmic structure alternates open compartments and containers made of aluminium sheet, creating a play of solids and voids that stimulates the imagination and introduces a refined visual balance.
The asymmetrical design and modular logic make the Cassina Nuage à Plots bookcase extremely versatile: it can take the form of a wall-mounted bookcase, a suspended composition or a central structure, adapting naturally to different contexts. In the living room, it reveals itself to be an artistic and functional object, capable of decorating with flair and offering storage solutions that combine order and style.
